Sleep stages are divided into two main categories: non-REM sleep and REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep, where dreams typically occur. Over the course of the night a sleeper will cycle through the five stages of sleep a number of times with the REM stages lasting longer and longer towards morning.

Daniel, (In response to your comment about lucid dreaming and breathing clear)
This is a guess, but maybe you achieved lucidity at the same time that your body was entering sleep paralysis. If you were still conscious as sleep paralysis was occurring, than you may have been attempting to breath consciously while your body was trying to switch your breathing to full autopilot. This could have caused a sensation of conflict with your breathing.
Just an idea to consider. Does anyone else have any thoughts as to why this occurred?
Came back from quickening and all I can say is WOW! My ancestors were teaching me how to create food from prana while floating in the sky! They kept telling me to concentrate on the energy in order to gather it in between my hands. I looked down and realized I was in the sky! They said, "You mastered flying long ago, now you have to master channeling prana and concentrating it into one point. I noticed that there was a purple chord coming from the ground going right through me into the cosmos, but I wasn't bothered by it! I looked back at what was forming in my hands and it was an apple, but I could sort of see through it! I started smiling and then I returned Maybe my subconscious is telling me that soon my body will require nourishment on an even higher vibration than fruits and veggies. It only makes sense considering these fools are playing with our food and atmosphere. Can't trust anything but food you grew yourself!
any thoughts on this? Master Hua Ching Ni says developing dense physical musculature obstructs the soul bodies path out of the physical vehicle(i.e. astral projection, ascension etc). He doesn't advocate being a jelly roll but he does warn against too much dense muscle fiber. Can anyone address this?
@Elke....Wonderful! A few quickenings ago I went with one question on my mind, "What is my life purpose?" When I got to astral, I found myself tending to some tomato plants while talking to a couple of my ancestors. We were just joking around until I felt something creeping on my left elbow! I slowly lifted it and saw a black spider with purple legs! I asked him, "Is there something I can do for you?"--No response. So I put him on one of the tomato plants, but he jumped back on my left arm! My ancestors asked, "You have a new pet?" To be honest, spiders aren't my favorite, but I'm not scared of them and I respect all forms of life. Then it dawned on me, "Maybe my arm has no circulation!" I came out of quickening state and sure enough my left arm was sleep! I've been debating on whether to put that spider in my BOS or not because I just think it was my subconscious telling me my arm was sleep!
Spider energy, weavers of life, good totum. However strange one day I awoke with two small blisters on sole of my foot, people said a spider bite, or a snake bite. My body reacted to something that definately bit me, and it blistered, and when a blister burst another appeared, the dr was lost for words. No snakes or spiders in London likely to do this!
im sure uncle google knows something on this :P
oddly i was wondering about spiders this evening cuz they are kinda squid like and creepycrawly. wondered what their origin and significance is….#8
well i never had that but if i were you i would never sleep again without a blowtorch next to me. XD
its been along time since i have had nightmares...everytime my dream is about to turn into a nightmare...i just unconsciously do something that takes care of it. for example: if you are familiar with Slenderman, i was having a dream with him hunting me but half way trough i was hunting him instead, like i snaped into some wolverine berserk mode
