"Obviously Americans are least of any people in the world afraid of drugs, because there is another drugstore at every corner, so if they are so afraid of mind expanding drugs, obviously it is the mind expansion that they are afraid of.

...and we are made afraid of mind expansion by precisely the people who have a vested interest in our minds being quite narrow.

Drugs, particularly of the Psychedelic variety, have a doorstop effect on the subconscious. They force the subconscious open and it stays open, so your experiences are outwardly subconscious.
While this seems to "force" a mind expanding or mystical experience, it does so in such a way that the will is not involved. So, while they can show you that there is a bigger picture just beyond the veil, they will not allow you to bring much information back.

This creates a dependency for the psychonaut, because he has not the WILL to get there alone. Without the proper concentration techniques, breathing, and single point focus to help quiet the mind, one cannot hold themself in the presence of innerspace for long.

My experience has been that will is a major contributor to one manifesting their desire to expand and be enlightened. To do this type of chemically induced exploring, one will not retain as much knowledge, one will not go as deep, and one will not remember their dreams...

This is just me, you may be different.
