Greetings all, I was hoping to get a few different shadow work techniques for releasing past traumas and behavioral patterns, so if people can list or link any that have been effective to them that will help a great deal.

I've been on the tails of quite a big one in me. If you could list any without bias that would be great, for everyone.

Then for me - a lot of them require visulisation to be guided to answers, but I am unable to visualise very effectively, and don't receive dreams very frequently. I do however have a natural ability to manipulate energy.

Thank you for your help.

Sure I can tell you where I am at, thank you for asking :)

At the moment, when being with my feelings, my trips back to childhood see me as a 2 year old there, alone in a dark room. I just play games with myself there, and it makes me grin, feels great. I think it's a prelude to establishing the relationship again with my childhood self. Something a mystic tried to tell me years ago but I didn't fully comprehend, she was protecting a small asian female child in the dream when I met her those years ago.

Interestingly I did however get a sharp feeling of fear when someone else walked by in the physical world, while i am connected with my childhood self. I didn't see the child me show fear though, confusion perhaps, so I am not sure what to make of that disconnection from my fear and the childs reaction.

From there I hope after trust is established I'll gain deeper understanding of where some of traumas are, or be led there bit by bit.

It's all new to me, so I am just taking it as it comes.

If you know the UK, I am not sure how i'd convince anyone to give me EMDR on the NHS, as in what i'd say to the doctor. Paying for it is an option, but again what do I say to the private healthcare guy, I'd like EMDR. Will it matter if I don't know what trauma I am hoping to heal?

Thanks for any help.

Your memories as a two year old are significant. This is, I think, where your issue may come from. From an age where you are too young to have conscious recall as an adult.

Go to this link: http://www.emdrassociation.org.uk/home/index.htm. At the top of the homepage there is a "find a therapist" tab. They are listed by area, name and category. Cold call one in your area or whatever, and tell them you want EMDR information, that you are experiencing symptoms of trauma in your life but that you aren't able to recall many specifics. Ask if they are NHS or how much they cost. They will ask you some questions. Regardless of what they say, call more than one. Thank them and tell then you're calling around and will call back if you want to make an appointment. If you get voice mail, leave a message. Most will get back to you in 24 hours.

IMPORTANT:

Call at least three therapists. Therapists are all different. Some are more open minded than others. Some will be more knowledgeable about trauma in early life that you don't fully remember and they will have appropriate and ethical techniques for uncovering these. You want to pick one that you feel most comfortable with, that you trust to not influence your memories, and that understands or is willing to understand what your issue is.

I wish you well!! Let us know how it goes.
