I see the Chakras similar to the way I see ritual, The young need ritual to instill faith or knowing that the powers are accessible and that we can bring about desired results. The powers that we are accessing via the chakra system are similar but of a different flavor then say what is accessed during religious prayer, witchcraft, sorcery etc etc etc

As we grow in our innerstanding and the knowing of the forces we are tapping, the need for the ritual diminishes and the conscious use of the chakra system begins to be less and less important to accomplish the same levels of creation until eventually our knowing becomes larger then the need to have some external crutch to facilitate the creative action and the chakra focus falls away naturally.

I suppose from a external viewpoint they may seem to still be in place but that would fall under the perceiver's  jurisdiction and their need to classify the being into their understanding.

Do away with the Chakras?
"Where would you put them?"

I can certainly see merging all of the Chakra systems into one blended system for the sake of simplified function, but I feel this is a feat for the very advanced Adept. 
Can you see how this will completely blow the circuits of an unprepared individual?
Considering the absolute plethora of Chakras within the Human Body, are you only going to merge 7 of them? Can you see how this will completely throw off the Harmonic State of your Being? Reflect on the Solar System, if we merged 3 planets together, and left the rest un-merged, how this magnetic harmony would be completely thrown into chaos, how certain planets may essentially be thrown into deep space, free floating. 

First I feel we would have to identify every Chakra, and then merge them, but to have them all ACTIVATED requires a grand capacity to hold the frequency. Not saying it is unwise and definitely NOT impossible, I am just saying that if you are going to do something like this, really, REALLY Innerstand exactly WHAT you are working with, and make sure you are prepared for the Force, or expect a Big Bang.
