"Creating a superfood formula turned out to be more of a challenge than I realized. I began with researching foods and herbs that can be taken daily on a continuing basis. The list was almost endless. But I narrowed it down to almost one hundred different ingredients. Some had dynamite nutrition or herbal toning qualities, but they also had a texture or consistency that would resist being blended easily into a powdered blend or dissolving in water. Some tasted so bad, no one would ever want to come back a second time to eat it. Some were impossible to obtain certified organically grown. I figured if you are going to take a superfood formula every day of your life, it ought to be pure and free of toxins. Otherwise how good can it be to take in some food that needs a neutralizing ingredient just to help your body process the toxins that come with it?
Now the field was narrowed down to about 50 ingredients; all organically grown and nutritionally superior. I began the task of discovering the very best. How? By tasting. After all, I reasoned, if it doesn't taste like food, really good food, why would anyone want to eat it? I am not talking "good tasting" as in a mouth watering dessert or a scrumptious home cooked meal; what could ever replace those tastes and who would want to? I am talking about a neutral, fresh, green, just from-the-garden kind of taste. One that just sort of picks you up and vibrates you with good, fresh, clean energy. The taste? Well, the taste is fresh and good in a wholesome sort of way. The more you have of it, the more it grows on you, and the more you want it. That is what I call a good taste.
When I had finally gotten to the easy part of the testing -taste- it was
so very obvious. Some I had to spit out right away and wash out my mouth. Ugh, not that one, I wrote down on my notepad. Some were borderline; it wasn't that they tasted so bad, at first they tasted good, but then a bitter aftertaste started coming on. A few of these I kept in the formula as they were outstanding in their benefits for the body; I knew that the richness and good flavor of so many others would carry these few along. Finally, I tasted something so good, I just wanted to keep eating it. With every ingredient I also noted how it smelled, because often the first whiff of something is inviting or can turn you away; there were some ingredients that were crossed off the list for just that reason. Some were neither bad nor good, they were neutral; they contained superior nutrition, so I kept them on the list because I knew their flavor would disappear in the final blend.
