For a few years, I was practicing Kundalini Yoga and after the close of each practice, we students chanted SAT NAM. Which the teacher instructed that meant, "the truth is your identity."
Today, I was listening to the show that Sevan had with Christina George and I heard him say Satan and Sat Nam are the same. I have taken the dualism out of Satan, and realize that it rests in the lower part of the body, the fire region. Are they interchangeable because Kundalini rests in the tail/tale bone, giving us our story, our truth? Is the meaning that was exchanged in my previous years incorrect?
Any thoughts would be helpful! Thanks! :-)
Hello, yes your are correct.´Heaven´and ´Hell´ are inside us all. I've also been practicing Kundalini Yoga, the translation that I'm aware is ´Thuth is my name´, this translation comes from Maya Fiennes btw (highly recomended)
The Kundalini energie amplifies
everything in you so if you are acid and if there´s a lot of toxicins that will be amplified, so living hell, just see those people that post all those videos on youtube having bad Kundalini experiences..
In my point of view these toxins and lack of balance in lower regions of the body is Satan (Baal - Bowel sounds the same)
HARI NAM, SAT NAM
The name of God is the True Name
SAT GURAY NAMEH
I bow to True Wisdom
much like English, Sanskrit has many different interpretations of the same word depending on the context. Then you are going down a slippery slope but something that is still valid to investigate in comparing different languages. Satan is a Hebrew word. From the wiki:
The original Hebrew term, satan, is a noun from a verb meaning primarily to, “obstruct, oppose,” as it is found in Numbers 22:22, 1 Samuel 29:4, Psalms 109:6. Ha-Satan is traditionally translated as “the accuser,” or “the adversary.” The definite article “ha-,” English “the," is used to show that this is a title bestowed on a being, versus the name of a being. Thus this being would be referred to as “the satan"
So, it seems it was used as an entity who judges what is good and bad and usually with emphasis on the bad.
Then if we want to look further down the rabbit hole you may also see a connection with Saturn (youtube since his website was taken down).
The Romans identified Saturn with the Greek Cronus, whose myths were adapted for Latin literature and Roman art. In particular, Cronus's role in the genealogy of the Greek gods was transferred to Saturn.
Now Cronus is associated with time and judgement but i'll leave it at that because i think half the fun is finding stuff out on your own.
Really good question Emily thanks for asking it, I don't know all of the answer myself.
My rule of thumb: Chant nothing you don't know the meaning of! :)
My guess is it relates to Saturn/ Satan as well, The "Truth" would then be that which can be made the absolute lowest common denominator, because clearly, saturn is not the only planet alive, thus, for it to be true that "Saturn/ truth is my name" it would have to be a more expansive definition, what i mean by this is, Earth Nam, Mars Nam, Sol Nam, Mercury Nam, Pluto Nam... E.t.c.
Bit of a difficult issue eh? Old Satan/ Saturn... The enemy of man kind; Father Time! Who finds the truth out about everyone, by the test of... TIME! :)
Thanks for your Sam! Totally agree, I have fully innerstand intonation. That question came up as I was listening to a podcast a while back. ALL ways appreciate your input! :-)
here's an article i found on it, if you're still interested. http://www.kundaliniyoga.org/kyt15.html
By the way i found my answer above problematic upon re-reading it, just because of the grammar, what i meant to say is that, if SAT really means truth in sanskrit, then there is no issue in replacing it with the name of any other planet, or thing, or saying truth directly, for us, as it is the intention that counts, and not just the vibration of the word. I did take the time to go directly for the root and it says on wikipedia in sanskrit it does indeed mean "essence/purity/truth". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sat_(Sanskrit)
That said, the saturn connection is definitely there, and there IS the cult of Saturn worshippers
So there are several things i know about saturn: its rumored to have been a planet just like earth, which fell apart due to greed, it is vast, it breaks things down into structured form, its planetary effect on earth and our energy here is that it creates the metal of led, and these flowers: http://aartiana.wordpress.com/2010/03/12/9-flower-essences-for-usin...
and these stones: http://www.alchemy-works.com/planets_saturn.html blue sapphire for instance
very interesting now that i look it all up actually...
"Cramp Bark (Viburnum trilobum) – Feeling Fully Appreciated
For those Saturnian types that feel pressured to give more than they receive, Cramp Bark is ideal. It inspires contentment and deep feelings of appreciation, and reduces feelings of being invisible and taken for granted. Cramp Bark helps us find healthy boundaries so we do not give too much, which can in turn cause complaining or criticizing behavior to others as well as ourselves. It also inspires us to learn how to receive properly. Cramp Bark is especially beneficial when taken during a woman’s monthly cycle – a time when the tendency to give too much due to expectation of others is high."
In the mean time, if we feel uncomfortable with Sat Nam (like i do) we can just chant "Truth is my name" :)
Have you learned all of the Mudras by the way? Or been watching the most recent shows?
I find certain mudras incredibly powerful, and re-balancing, just like... ta-da, the mudra for (in)-digestion and "expelling demons" :) also touching the middle finger (saturn) finger to the thumb... interesting what happens when we try to find "truth" :D
It leads to more and more and it's really just endless.
Here's a great site sharing all of the mudras, my favourites are the water and life mudras :) http://www.harisingh.com/newsMudras.htm
SA TA NA MA= SATAN AMA.......Ama means mother in sanskrit. mother satan
i have not learned all the mudras.....there are a few i cycle through. Indeed it is endless, this is the ever quest! ;) I'll check out the site. Thanks again Sam!
This actually blew my mind... don't know what more to say to that.
