Environmentalism is the movement of the 21^st century, or at least the movement of the modern world. However, if you search “save the world” or “environmental issues” in Google you will be faced with the dilemma of trying to decipher which environmental issue is more pressing and therefore which issue you should put your time, energy (and probably money) towards.

The fact that we as a species are unable to collectively agree on which environmental issue is more urgent than another is a scary reflection on us, but in the interests of keeping this article “on topic” we best leave that discussion for another time. In terms of the range of environmental issues currently circulating the internet and popular media what I have tried to do is give a bit of a lay-mans account of what are the main environmental problems facing us.

Robin Gibbs, famed singer from The Bee Gees, recently lost his battle with cancer and surgical complications. Along with his brothers Maurice and Barry, Gibbs defined a musical era with songs specially written for the movie, Saturday Night Fever. Among his many records hits was “Stayin’ Alive,” now considered the perfect rhythm for performing lifesaving CPR.

Tony Hyler, a 54-year-old CEO of a bagel company from Chicago, met 8-year-old Jada Love Tracy while he was receiving at I.U. Health Proton Therapy in Bloomington, Ind. Hyler was so impressed with little Jada’s spirit as she struggled with a tumor that had found its way to her brainstem that in 2010, Hyler threw Jada the party of a lifetime when he learned her time was growing short. Sadly, Jada lost her fight with cancer last year, but her mom recently arranged a walk against childhood cancer in her hometown of Fort Wayne, Ind.

A few weeks ago I came back from a trip to Hawaii. I hadn’t taken a real vacation in a long time, so this was something I really needed. When I left to Hawaii, it was the end of April and the weather was still fairly miserable in Canada.

My wife and I arrived in Honolulu on a bright sunny day and we were greeted at the airport by my good friend Shelli, an awesome personal trainer I first met in San Diego almost 15 years ago.

Shelli brought us some pineapples and papayas so we would have something to eat right away until we could shop the next day. When I got to the hotel, I proceeded to devour an entire pineapple! I was so thirsty from flying that I needed something juicy.

In my entire time in Hawaii, I ate on average one pineapple a day. I brutalized my tongue with an onslaught of the delicious acid fruit, but fortunately Hawaii pineapples were ripe and not too acidic. I also did not eat them all at once but throughout the day.

This, of course, was in addition to all the other fruit I ate when I was there!
